Microscopic Theory of Softness in Supercooled Liquids

چکیده

We introduce a new measure of the structure liquid which is softness mean-field potential developed by us earlier. find that this sensitive to small changes in structure. then study its correlation with supercooled dynamics. The involves wide range liquids (fragile, strong, attractive, repulsive, and active) predicts some universal behaviours like linearly proportional temperature inversely activation barrier dynamics system dependent proportionality constants. write down master equation between parameter show indeed when scaled parameters data collapse plotted against softness. fragile strong dependence whereas much weaker dependence. also connect present earlier studies involving machine learning (ML) thus providing theoretical framework for understanding ML results.

The microscopic pathway to crystallization in supercooled liquids

Despite its fundamental and technological importance, a microscopic understanding of the crystallization process is still elusive. By computer simulations of the hard-sphere model we reveal the mechanism by which thermal fluctuations drive the transition from the supercooled liquid state to the crystal state. In particular we show that fluctuations in bond orientational order trigger the nuclea...

Theory of structural glasses and supercooled liquids.

We review the random first-order transition theory of the glass transition, emphasizing the experimental tests of the theory. Many distinct phenomena are quantitatively predicted or explained by the theory, both above and below the glass transition temperature T(g). These include the following: the viscosity catastrophe and heat-capacity jump at T(g), and their connection; the nonexponentiality...

Supercooled liquids under shear: theory and simulation.

We analyze the behavior of supercooled fluids under shear both theoretically and numerically. Theoretically, we generalize the mode-coupling theory of supercooled fluids to systems under stationary shear flow. Our starting point is the set of generalized fluctuating hydrodynamic equations with a convection term. A nonlinear integrodifferential equation for the intermediate scattering function i...

namics of supercooled liquids ?

Europhysics Letters PREPRINT Are there localized saddles behind the heterogeneous dynamics of supercooled liquids? Abstract. – We numerically study the interplay between heterogeneous dynamics and properties of negatively curved regions of the potential energy surface in a model glassy system. We find that the unstable modes of saddles and quasi-saddles undergo a localization transition close t...

Mechanics of Supercooled Liquids

Pure substances can often be cooled below their melting points and still remain in the liquid state. For some supercooled liquids, a further cooling slows down viscous flow greatly, but does not slow down self-diffusion as much. We formulate a continuum theory that regards viscous flow and self-diffusion as concurrent, but distinct, processes. We generalize Newton’s law of viscosity to relate s...
